Joyce Meyer, a Christian author and speaker once said, “A pencil and a dream can take you anywhere.”
Greg Reid even said it better when he wrote, “A dream written down becomes a goal. A goal broken down into steps becomes a plan. A plan backed by action makes your dreams a reality."
Here are six lessons you can learn from a pencil.
1. Learn From Your Mistakes and Make Corrections.
A pencil is a useful tool in our everyday life, we use it to write things down and to draw. As you use your pencil, you can unknowingly make a mistake but the pencil has an eraser which can be used to erase the mistake and allow you to correct the words or drawing.
Human beings make a lot of mistakes because we are not perfect, but we can learn from the mistakes and become better and wiser. Instead of allowing mistakes to hold us back, we must be able to wipe the slate clean and move on with life with our improved outlook.
2. Life Should Be Tackled Firmly but not with a lot of Pressure.
A pencil writes perfectly well when it is held firmly and guided, whether in writing or drawing. Too much pressure applied on the pencil can either break the tip or the pencil be broken into two.
The second lesson from the pencil is that, it is wise to tackle life firmly with principles and disciplines to help us become valuable to ourselves and also to the world. Too much pressure on yourself can break you down, emotionally, physically and spiritually. Have patience and achieve your goals one at a time as you build on the big dream.
3. You’ll Require Sharpening and Polishing as Well.
For a pencil; to write well it has to be sharpened and well-polished. A sharp pointed pencil writes better than a blunt pencil. An artist has to make sure that a pencil is well sharpened for smooth and perfect drawing.
As human beings we also require polishing and sharpening to make us more valuable. Our sharpening happens during tough times, where we need to make a decision of toughening instead of breaking down. Tough times come to build us up and prepare us for better responsibilities in future.
4. Appearance Can Be Deceiving.
Pencils come in variety, some are beautifully colored while others have decorations depending on how a manufacturer wants it to look. What makes the difference is not the branding of the pencil but the quality of the lead inside.
Looks can be deceiving because human beings have learnt the art of pretending. So instead of judging people based on their outward look, take some time to learn more about the person. Get to know their desires and motivation in order to come up with a correct conclusion.
5. Every Kind of Pencil has a Purpose.
Pencils are manufactured different to serve different purposes. There are pencils manufactured for writing which write perfectly well, others are manufactured for drawing and others still for coloring. Each pencil serves the purpose it was created for perfectly.
As human beings we were each created for a purpose. Everyone has something in themselves that sets them apart. Our goal is to identity our purpose and grow ourselves to become distinct and serve the world.
You can also read, "Self Improvement is a Continuous Process."
6. Whatever You Do Leaves a Mark.
When a pencil is used to write on a plain pad, it leaves a mark which cannot be completely erased. It can be used to write positive things that change the world or it can be used to write things that create dissension among people.
Whatever we do here on earth leaves a mark that we can’t erase. The kindness that you show another person will remain with them forever just as mistreatment done to another person will stay with them forever. Our goal is to create positive memories and leave a great lasting impression.
Live a Life of Purpose.
Here are six incredible lessons we can learn from a Pencil. We will make mistakes, so we need to turn our mistakes into learning experiences. Let’s live life firmly but with less pressure because we need to have patience. Sharpen yourself with daily improvements while taking time to learn more about people to get to know them well. Live a life of purpose and leave a great lasting impression.
